Sea Area A2
What does Sea Area A2 mean in boating?
The Sea Area A2 is a maritime radio zone extending beyond the coastal A1 Area. It includes regions covered by Medium Frequency (MF) radio, typically up to 180 nautical miles off the coast.
Within this area, the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) enables communication and Digital Selective Calling (DSC) messages via MF coastal radio stations, even beyond the range of VHF radio.
Practical tip:
Ensure your radio is equipped with DSC and properly configured. Practice using DSC for emergency calls and routine communication to operate effectively and safely in the A2 Area.
