Windward

Windward refers to the direction from which the wind is coming. For example, if you are standing facing the wind, the windward direction would be the direction that the wind is blowing from. On the other hand, the direction away from the wind is called leeward.

In meteorology, windward and leeward refer to the direction of the wind relative to a particular location or object. The windward side of an object is the side that is facing the wind, while the leeward side is the side that is sheltered from the wind.

For example, the windward side of a mountain or hill is the side that is exposed to the wind, while the leeward side is the side that is protected from the wind by the topography of the land. Similarly, the windward side of a ship is the side that is facing the wind, while the leeward side is the side that is away from the wind.
